«Yuma», in Karelian, means “huge”, “roaring”. The word may be used to describe the world surrounding the protagonist of the film, at one hand, and the numerous thresholds and falls of Northern Kareliya, which made for the backgrounds of the film’s main action, at the other. «Yuma» - is an author’s film about perception of the world by a young man who is starting out his life, about the Russians and the Finns living in the north, about the Karelian-Finnish epos “Kalevala” as it is seen nowadays, about the continuity of generations and peoples and about the general harmony in the universe.
